Should Screenwriters Wear Blue Light Glasses?

If you’re a screenwriter, you likely spend an obscene amount of time in front of your laptop or computer screen. The amount of time you spend in front of that screen can have a negative effect on your eyes. That negative effect comes in the form of macular degeneration and eye strain. What causes these negative effects is blue light.

Without getting deep into the physics, there’s a visible light spectrum. Blue light rays have a short wavelength. Light rays with short wavelengths have high energy. Blue light rays are sometimes called blue violet or violet light. This is why electromagnetic light rays beyond the visible light spectrum are referred as ultraviolet radiation.

Our ancestors didn’t have have to worry about limiting the amount of light exposure. Our world is a world of lights from small cell phone screens to computer screens to big liquid crystal display screens. It’s of great importance for all of us to regulate how much light we consume. Light plays a big role in sleep and health and a lot of light undermines sleep. Blue light can affect sleep and health. Exposure at the wrong times of the day and night can be disruptive to circadian rhythms.

Research has demonstrated the harmful impact of blue light on sleep and sleep wake bio rhythms. Blue light stimulates the production of cortisol, an alerting and stress hormone that interferes with sleep. The exposure to this particular light causes more awakenings leading to less refreshing sleep and more awakenings the next day. There’s significant emerging research that blue light causes unique damage to cells in our eyes.

The blue light has a capacity to inflict damage on the health and function of our eyes, raising the risks of eye diseases like cataracts and age related macular degeneration. There’s also emerging evidence of a connection between blue light exposure and elevated risk of cancer of the breast and prostate.

Don’t fear. There’s good news! Large and growing body of research is showing that blue light blocking glasses can be very effective filtering out blue light and restoring healthy sleep and bio rhythms. The studies show that blue light blocking glasses improves symptoms of insomnia, increases sleep quantity and quality, resets circadian rhythms, improves cognitive performance, including memory, learning and how quickly the brain processes information.

In conclusion, I believe screenwriters should wear blue light glasses to protect their health. In case you didn’t know, you can go to the homepage to check out the blue light blocking glasses I’m selling as an affiliate or you can try these blue light blocking glasses.
